Tibetan Therapy is a complex fusion of many different elements and idea derived from traditional Chinese medicine, Indian ayurveda and ancient Persian Practices.
In addition there are major components derived from local folk medicine, herbal-lore, bon-po culture and Tibetan shamanism.

Nyes-Pas (The three humours)
In Tibetan therapy the body is considered to be based on five cosmic energies - space, air, fire, water and earth, the biological intermediaries of these five are known as the nyes-pas much like the doshas of Indian ayurvedic therapy. The nyes-pas also referred to as the three humours are known as rLung (translated as wind) mKrispa (bile) and Began (phlegm). We are all created from these nyes-pas, but with the dominance of a particular nyes-pas within our bodies creates certain physical and personality traits. Each individual can be catagorised according to their nyes-pas. Tibetans stongly believe that any imbalance of the nyes-pas will result in ill health, therefore all Tibetan treatments are designed to re-balance the nyes-pas to promote good health and well being.

Life Sustaining Wind
Tibetan therapy works on the principal that everyone has life sustaining wind, it is the source of all physical, spiritual and psychological energies, considered to be a sort of life force. When the wind becomes unbalanced or disturbed in any way signs of stress, anxiety and restlessness manifest themselves. It is known that the life sustaining wind is affected by fear (stress). The aim of Tibetan therapy is to rebalance/ sedate the life sustaining wind to rebalance the body.

The Medicine Buddha
Tibetan therapy incorporates the spiritual tradition bon (pronounced bu-un) which is believed to have originated from the medical teachings of the Buddha in 500bc. It is an ancient science of healing working on the balance and flow of the energy system. The medicine buddha is a very important component of Tibetan therapy. Bhiaishajyaguni represents the healing energy within ourselves, the universe and the planet merged together in unity, Tibetan therapy uses the power of the medicine of Buddha to heal the body.

Tibetan Bon Points
A complex acupuncture system of bon medicine was developed thousands of years ago by the indigenous people of Tibet to be used as a medical treatment for themselves and families when there was no medical aid available, this system was later refined by Bon physicians. Unlike Chinese acupuncture, Tibetan Bon points (acupressure points) balance the Chakra winds, senses and major nerves and are located on areas where it is believed the nyes-pas meet.

Traditional Tibetan Bon Point Treatment
This treatment originated in Tibet and uses genuine Tibetan acupressure points and authentic bon points along with traditional principles and theories of ancient Tibetan medicine, Tibetan ayurveda and the aid of the medicine Buddha. This deeply relaxing treatment is designed to repair and heal the mind, body and spirit, whilst rebalancing complex energy systems. The treatment begins with deep breathing techniques and a mantra (chant) is said to empower the healing aspect of the treatment, before a concentrated massage of the bon points located on the face, neck and scalp is carried outg in order to restore a feeling of inner peace and calm.

Tibetan Bundle Treatment
The secret of this treatment is enclosed in bundles (that have been designed to simulate Tibetan bon points) filled with pebbles from one of the highest regions in the world - they Himalayan mountains. The pebbles along with natural salt are wrapped in linen compresses before being steam heated and soaked in ayurvedic oil. The bundles are then used in place of the therapists hands to give a warming, slightly exfoliating and totally unique full body massage. Please note that a shower is required on completion of the massage in order to remove any residue from the salt and oil.
